AU-PAIR
(USA, CANADA, NORWAY,
DENMARK NETHERLAND, HOLLAND,
BELGIUM & HOUSE MAID in
SINGAPORE and CYPRUS)
The Au-Pair program is an
educational and cultural
exchange program with a
strong child care component.
“Au Pair” is French for “on
par”, reminding host
families that their
international visitor is to
be treated as a member of
the family.
“Au Pair” is a cultural
exchange and education
program with an intention of
improving relations between
people of different
countries and develop a
mutual relation between a
young woman or man and a
host family living in a
foreign country. The family
helps the Au Pair to get to
know the country’s language
and culture, offers boarding
and lodging and integrates
the Au Pair into daily life.
In return the Au Pair helps
the family to look after the
children and to fulfill the
daily household chorus. An
Au pair is not a cleaner,
housekeeper, household
manager or a child minder.
An Au Pair is regarded as a
member of the family (as an
elder son or daughter) and
not a hired helper. It is a
cultural exchange program
and not a contract of work.
TYPICAL DUTIES OF AN AU
PAIR:
An au pair’s main
responsibility will be to
care for the children in the
host family for no more than
45 hours a week. Depending
on children age, duties may
vary. To give an idea, here
are some everyday jobs:
1.

3.
Playing games and telling bed-time stories.
4.
Helping them with their homework.
5.
Driving them to and from school, as well as to any other
appointments.
All host families are
