Govt. College for Girls
Patiala
was started in 1942 as an Intermediary College with 22 students and 6
subjects in Arts & Humanities; today it offers a total of 11 courses,
both at UG and PG level in Arts as well as Science streams, to about
3000 students. The college is proud of its teaching faculty, headed by
the Principal, a D. Litt degree and a Sahit Academy Awardee, who is a
guiding spirit for a very highly qualified, hard-working and dedicated
staff, which includes 30 PhDs and 30 M.Phil out of a total staff of 79
lecturers.
The college was
assessed by the NAAC in March 2003 and accredited with B+ grade.
Sprawled in an
area of 27.5 acres, the college has well designed teaching blocks,
well equipped labs including a language lab, well stacked library
heritage museum, swimming pool, gymnasium and well-maintained lawns.
The college has always endeavored to fulfill its objectives of
providing quality education for empowerment of women, for making them
economically self-reliant, for uplifting the weaker sections of
society and creating cultural awareness among the students. Keeping in
mind, the changing scenario in the field of higher education the world
over, the college has been trying to orient its energies, resources
and infrastructural facilities to introduce new courses, which are the
need of the hour. |
